Our 7 Aspirational Destinations 

 

Our vision is Creating Meaningful Futures and destinations are at the heart of everything we do.

Whether it is the curriculum we design, the opportunities we provide or the resources we access, the aspirational destination for our young people is usually where we begin.

This is what helps us determine the offer for our young people.

With such a wide range of need across our schools, the destinations for young people can be very different. We have tried to simplify this into 7 destinations.

 

Our 7 Aspirational Destinations are:

4. Playing a Part in My Community

5. Volunteering a Part in My Community

6. Working with Support

Destinations Champions

 

By having each of the destinations at the forefront of our minds, we can continue to create meaningful futures for each one of our young people.

To help provide a better picture what each destination means, below are some examples of ‘Destination Champions’ and a statement that reflects what they can do at the end of key stage 4/5.

 

1. Being Involved - Hajjrah

End of KS5 Statement:

Accept support with familiar activities or in familiar environments.

 

2. Taking Part - Huan

End of KS5 Statement:

Follow an adult’s choice of activity using highly engaging stimuli. 

 

3. Taking Control - Leo

End of KS5 Statement:

Request favoured activities verbally, through sign, symbols or gestures.

 

4. Playing a Part in My Community - Rares

End of KS5 Statement:

Carry out some basic and familiar tasks within the home or school setting.

 

5. Volunteering in My Community - Sophie

End of KS5 Statement:

Build a portfolio of external accreditation and access community placements, with support.

 

6. Working With Support - Wajeehudden

End of KS5 Statement:

Have a portfolio of accreditation and may get paid work within the local community.

 

7. Being Independent - Michael 

End of KS5 Statement:

Have a strong portfolio of external accreditation, may live independently, have paid work or attend FE/University.

 

We have created a full bank of ‘Destination Champion Films’, which can be found on our dedicated YouTube channel.

Each of these films was recorded and edited by our internal video production enterprise and aim to showcase a destination example from each key stage across our schools.

 

The Destination Matrix 

 

The destination statements that underpin the 7 Aspirational Destinations has been developed by a collective team of staff from across New Bridge Multi Academy Trust.

 

We worked together to review the outcome areas on EHCP plans:

1. Cognition and Learning

2. Communication and Interaction

3. Social and Emotional Mental health

4. Sensory and Physical

 

We then developed a series of destination statements and what they might look like at the end of each key stage, which we call ‘The Destination Matrix’.

 

We mapped these to 4 discrete areas of learning:

 

K    - Knowledge

W  - Wellbeing

I    - Independence

C  - Communication & Interaction

 

Reviewing where our young people are on their flight path to their aspirational destination allows us to determine what the next steps are.

This ensures each one of our young people has the opportunity to create a meaningful future.
