Chicago 2025 - Day Five

Chicago Day 5 - Armando and Arcades

After yesterday’s workshops at ‘The Second City’ and ‘iO Theatre’, the students were back at the Ridgewood Campus to practice their enhanced improvisation skills in preparation for the end of the week performances.

However, before we set off, the students kicked off the day with a hotel breakfast and briefing.

When we arrived at Ridgewood, both New Bridge and Ridgewood students were put into groups and they practiced a series of ‘Armando Improv’ pieces.

Armando is a long form of improvisation and is named after its creator, Chicago Improv teacher and player Armando Diaz. This improv format starts with a storytelling-style monologue, based on an audience suggestion. After the monologue, the improvisors are then challenged to expand on the minute pieces of information within these stories rather than recreating the events held within. The stories create a universe which allows other improv scenes to exist within them.

For lunch today, our students joined the students of Ridgewood in their cafeteria.

After lunch, the students continued practicing Armando Improv.

All of the students were excellent and the staff observed them go from strength-to-strength throughout the day. A massive well done to all.

After an amazing school day collaborating with the students from Ridgewood, the fun was not over.

We all freshened up at the hotel and then met the Ridgewood students for our evening meal and video gaming at a popular amusement arcade.
